About MAPCO
MAPCO was created by a group of women in Maka Village in southern Sierra Leone to implement their vision of a society in which everyone has the right, resources and opportunity to realise their full potential, free from discrimination and economic exclusion.
Action on Poverty have worked with MAPCO since 1992, collaborating on projects such as ‘Empowering Local Communities in Pujehun, Sierra Leone’ and ‘Livelihoods and Food Security in Moyamba, Sierra Leone,’ which sought to relieve some of the lasting economic fallout from the civil war and ebola. With MAPCO, we have already managed to reach and engage with tens of thousands of Sierra Leoneans in rural and hard-to-access communities, helping them boost their income and access new routes out of poverty.
We currently have two active programmes with MAPCO–‘Women Changemakers in Sierra Leone’ and ‘Building Resilient Communities in the Fight Against Child Labour’–both of which can be read about on our website.
