A closer look at our work in Eastern Uganda
We’re delighted to share a new video that offers a window into our child‑labour project in the sugar and rice‑growing communities of Eastern Uganda. Created in partnership with Platform for Labour Action (PLA), this project has been all about people coming together (families, community champions, local organisations and district leaders) to make sure children are safe, supported and able to shape their own futures.
Over the past months, we’ve worked closely with communities across Iganga, Bugiri and Kaliro. What you’ll see in the video is the heart of that journey: parents strengthening their livelihoods, young people finding new opportunities, and local champions stepping forward to protect children in their villages.
The project has also helped build stronger local systems. Community‑based organisations have taken on leadership roles, duty bearers have become more confident in responding to child protection concerns, and businesses have begun adopting practices that keep children out of dangerous work. These shifts grew through conversations, training, collaboration and the determination of people who want better for their children.
What stands out most is the sense of shared responsibility. From local councils to farmers’ groups, from radio presenters to school leaders, many different voices have played a part in creating safer environments for children. The video captures this spirit beautifully!
