Keep the government to their word by signing the petition!
In Africa, there are an estimated 33 million smallholder farms, with the farmers that work there contributing up to 70 per cent of the continent’s food supply.
But these farmers are under pressure. They know from experience the devastating effects of climate change but lack the power to do anything about it, as crops fail, poverty is exacerbated and children go hungry.
That’s why we’re calling on the government to back up its commitment of £1,000 million in humanitarian relief by ring-fencing 5% for locally led initiatives that build climate resilience.
As we’ve seen in our own projects, investing in smallholder agriculture has the potential to increase food production and reduce poverty. It’s time the government realised that too.
