Working in Sierra Leone, CARD describe their mission as contributing to the growth of civil societies where local people acting together can exchange information, strive for mutual goals and influence community activities. Since its inception in 2001, CARD has delivered on this mission in various ways— their apprenticeship schemes provide business, literacy and numeracy skills training, as well as the opportunity to learn a trade from an artisan. Their work with community-based organisations, meanwhile, support agricultural based cooperatives so that farmers can overcome poverty together.
In their activities, CARD focuses on groups who are marginalised and those who rarely have their views heard, such as women, young people, people with disabilities, and farmers.
